As part of a long trip in Spain, my wife and I are planning 7 days in the Basque Country. We will be taking public transportation, and the basic question is how to divide time among Bilbao, Vitorio/Gasteiz and San Sebastian. We love towns like Lucca and Siena where you can walk around easily, there's lots to do and see, the whole place isn't goobered up with new buildings, and you don't feel harried, or overwhelmed by tourists. Any recommendations for similar cities in Euskadi? Thanks in advance.

Last summer, we spent 7 delightful days in the Basque Country. Using only public transportation, we stayed 3 nights in St. Jean de Luz, 3 nights in San Sebastian and 1 night in Bilbao. All three places were very walkable. From St. Jean de Luz, we took a day trip to Bayonne by bus and while in San Sebastian we took a day trip to Hondarribia also by bus. We really enjoyed visiting and learning about the Basque culture.
