September Itinerary

Hey all, I've got another itinerary for your consideration. I've travelled to Europe a fair amount of times but haven't been to Spain since the very late 80's when I was stationed in Germany. We're taking a real quick trip to Spain (just to get away) and need some input on this itinerary.

Monday leave US
Tuesday arrive Barcelona
Wednesday Barcelona
Thursday Barcelona
Friday drive to Tortosa and stay the night (don't ask)
Saturday drive to Segovia
Sunday Segovia
Monday drive to Toledo
Tuesday drive to Madrid return car
Wednesday Madrid
Thursday Madrid
Friday Fly home

This gives us an afternoon and 2 full days in Barcelona and Madrid and an afternoon and one full day in Segovia. Thoughts?

I assume Tortosa is a "must-do" for you (and no I won't ask why), hence the car - otherwise unneeded for the remainder of your route.
In Tortosa, the Parador is really nice and a sight in itself. I stayed there once years ago; the rest of the town was definitely unimpressive.

The drive from Tortosa to Segovia is quite long; much more interesting via the northerly route through Alcañiz than via Valencia. If you take the northerly route, Belchite's preserved ruined village is an emotional Civil War memorial, worth the detour if you are ready for it.

I'll be traveling Sep 5-16 and yes Tortosa is a must do, as is the car. I know we won't need it in the cities, but we really enjoy the countryside and driving.
