Senior rates for Cathedral & Alcazar - proof of entitlement

We are in Seville for a week from this Wednesday, 20th May, and I am looking at the official sites for both the Cathedral and the Alcazar. We have missed the boat on tickets to the Upper Rooms at the Alcazar but standard tickets are still available.

We are 2 Seniors and 1 adult. I see that there is a good saving for Seniors, is this generally the case in other places we may visit? Our passports are our proof for date of birth. Will a copy be enough or do we have to take the actual passport? I'm not keen on having to carry them around with us. Thanks.

The subject of carrying your passport comes up regularly on here.
"By law, you must carry your original passport (or, if you are a registered resident, your TIE/NIE) at all times in Spain. While many tourists use photocopies to avoid theft, police have the right to detain you until your identity is verified if you cannot produce the physical document".

Thank you, Lin C. I did try to search but the search returned over 16,000 responses in the forum. Is there a way to narrow down searches just to the Spain forum please? I'm in Surrey, UK too BTW!

I can’t speak to the places you mentioned, but on my current trip every time we paid for an attraction I just said dos reducidos and nobody ever asked to see any proof. Guess I just look that old.

A couple years ago at a place north of Madrid one needed to be an EU resident to get the reducidos price and it asked for my passport.

A couple Euros here and there adds up.

Here is my experience:

I bought tickets for a group at the Cathedral in Seville, including one senior citizen. They didn't ask for an ID or any proof when they scanned our ticket.

I've also purchased tickets that required a Spanish identity number or international equivalent. They have always accepted my US driver's license and I've used my driver's license ID number on forms like that. It has never been an issue, it's clearly valid photo ID.

So, my advice is that you can just bring your US driver's license with you to museums, castles, cathedral, etc in Spain. I believe that will work 100% of the time. Maybe there's some exception I'm unaware of, but I think that any official photo ID with an ID number is going to suffice.

When I lived in Spain, we would just say "jubilados" or "pensionistas" when buying tickets. Some places asked for proof, some didn't.
We always carried our passports when more than five minutes from home - I know at least one person who was stopped and fined for not having it with him (although he had committed a driving offence as well!).

Not quite sure what else you are searching for.
