I want to spend one night in Segovia and then travel to Toledo. I'm assuming I'd just bus it back to Madrid and then take a high speed train or train to Toledo? Any suggestions, thoughts?

Yes. There is nothing direct.
Train to both perhaps, as the bus journeys are twice or more in duration, unless the few €uro saved matters.
