What is the optimal times to travel in Spain for Spring, Summer and Fall?
Depends a bit where in Spain and what you want to do, as well as what is acceptable weather.
Andalusia and Southern Spain? It can be pleasant most of the year, except Parts of June, July and August lately are terribly hot. I have been there february through May, and in September, and everything seemed fine, if you want beach, then plan closer to May than February.
Madrid? Urban places tend to be OK (Barcelona too) most of the year, but Madrid also gets very hot in the Summer. Crowds pick up some times, mainly late May through September.
North coast, Basque region, through Galicia? It can get a bit rainy and dreary through the winter, if you can find that magic time between maybe April and june, or September and October, it is great, the summer is crowded, as that is getting to be the region to go to when everywhere else is blistering.
That said, for most travel, we look at between March and late May, especially Madrid and the South. Then September and October, mainly for Marid and the North
Hi rsopermd and welcome to the forum.
As mentioned above, a little more information will get you a better response. What kind of traveling do you like? For example do you prefer Museums and monuments, or food and wine, or hiking and nature?
For me, one of the best time to visit La Rioja just ended. It is the period between the 12th of October and when we change the clock. It is a time of beautiful fall landscape, good weather, few tourist, and still a some light in the evening. For others that might not be at all interesting.
We generally visit in late April into May or September/October. As stated, it depends on which part of the country you’re visiting and what you want to do. We avoid June-August if possible mostly because of the heat and that’s when many tourists tend to visit.
In May, some places in the mountains can still be cold while in late September it can still be pretty warm.
We prefer to travel to Spain in October - generally ideal weather - airfares from US are cheaper than summer travel. We’ve found that October can still be a very busy time for tourism but is generally outside of what’s considered high season prices for accommodations . As has been mentioned the ideal time is really dependent on your preferences - some people love winter travel for thin crowds and prefer colder weather etc.
Where in Spain?! The opposite ends of the country are too different to answer this.
