Hi. Does anyone know of a travel website where you can click on fridge or mini fridge as a hotel requirement? My next trip is to Spain but I'm interested in this everywhere! (I know aparthotels would have a fridge, but aside from that.) Thank you.
I almost always use Booking.com, I like that they offer a range of lodgings, from Chain hotels, to small hotels, to apartments and private lets, even whole houses. Refrigerator, kitchen, and other amenities are fully searchable.
Like you, I like a refrigerator, but I usually have to opt for an apartment type accommodation.
I would think that could be difficult to find. I have not seen a lot. Electricity in Europe is expensive and you will see lots of ways to discourage usage. A bunch of energy hogs mini frigs sitting is not a high priority. Many rooms will have a slot just inside door for the room key that turns on all the electricity for the room and when you everything is turned when you remove your key card. I am sure five star hotel probably have room refigs.
They can be found you just have to look for them.
Sites like Booking.com allow you to place filters on searches. Sometimes they'll say mini-fridge, sometimes they say mini-bar.
The problem with a mini-bar is that it may be full of stuff you can buy. Some other times, the mini-fridge is actually a cooler and doesn't get cold enough to hold things that might spoil.
Some hotel chains have different levels of rooms (standard doubles and "comfort doubles", or something like that). The more expensive category is more likely to have a mini-fridge. Be sure to clarify what you are reserving unless the hotel's website indicates all of its rooms have mini-fridges. In other words, the filter available on booking.com is a good start, but you should dig a bit deeper to be sure of what you're getting.
Most of the hotels I've stayed at have a small frig in the room. If there is none, I've had luck asking to keep small amount of food, or medicine,, in their kitchen refrigerator. I do tend to stay at upscale hotels, though.
I'd just narrow down hotels for each destination and e-mail them to confirm an in-room frig.
Check out the Spanish hotel chain, H10. At both the H10 Villa de la Reina in Madrid and H10 Art Hotel in Barcelona we had a minibar fridge in our room. They were fully stocked “minibars” with beverages and food for sale in them - we just moved things around to make room for our yogurt and cheese.
FWIW — We’ve stayed at H10s in Berlin and London as well and would recommend the chain. Each hotel is very different but consistent with great service, very comfortable rooms and the breakfasts were some of the best we’ve had - high quality and varied offerings.
Not sure where you intend to visit. We generally stay at Paradors and they have mini fridges in the rooms.
