Santiago to Madrid logistics

I am trying to determine a simple way to get from Santiago to the airport in Madrid. It looks like the easiest way is to take a 3 hour train to Madrid, stay the night in Madrid and then head to the airport the next day. I was hoping to take a cheap, early flight from Santiago straight to the Madrid airport and then depart on my international flight from there instead of staying the night, but I don't see that as an option. I would appreciate some input/suggestions. Thanks!

There are flights from Santiago to Madrid, but you aren't saving a lot of time compared to taking the train. I really like this train ride and it is fast and easy. Can you take the train the day of your flight? I have only flown to Frankfurt from Santiago, but do know there are a lot of flights from there.

We are having the same issue, just the opposite direction. We will be in Madrid and want to get to Santiago. After much googling and reading we decided to take the train. The trains in Spain are pleasant, clean, and fast. We’ve taken them before. Much easier too.
We will fly into Madrid from Zagreb, stay at the Hilton by the airport, then Taxi the next day to the Train station.

I certainly wouldn’t want to fly on a separate ticket the same day when trying to catch an international flight.

You could look at re-routing your itinerary to fly out of Santiago on one ticket. A modest cost to change could be better than all the other costs you’d face in train+hotel.

And given that most of the flights from MAD to the Americas leave before noon, I wouldn’t want to take a train the same day.

We had friends who took a morning flight from Santiago to Madrid because for them, it was just a layover for a later flight back to the states. My wife and I took the train into Madrid’s Chamartín station, then spent the night by the Puerta Del Sol. Our flight back to the states was the following day.

I selected a random date (1 Oct.) and Iberia has a 09:15 flight from Santiago to Madrid for €68. The flight duration is 1 hour 20 minutes.
