What are the transportation options between Santiago de Compostela and Madrid? What are the transportation options between Santiago de Compostela? Are there any options other than renting a car?

Santiago de Compostela is a large city with an airport so flights are readily available, you can also use the train (Renfe) and bus.

I took the train. Easy, comfortable 6 hour ride. Purchased my ticket when I got to Santiago, then spent 2 nights there before heading to Madrid. Price was reasonable. The train was full though, and I heard others weren't able to get seats, so get them as soon as you arrive.
Speaking to others who had taken the bus, they spoke of a miserable, long, uncomfortable ride.

JHF,
If you decide to take the train, you can check train schedules here: http://www.renfe.com

Make sure you choose, 'Madrid- Chamartin', from the drop down menu when you start typing Madrid (destination)

Have a wonderful trip!

Edit: If you decide to buy your tickets in advance, it's best to pay with PayPal when using the Renfe website.
