Hello all!
We will be in La Coruna off a cruise ship on September 10th. We arrive at 7am and have to be back on board at 3:30pm. Going off the current schedule, looks like trains leave La Coruna about every 30 min and only take 28 min to get to Santiago de Compostela. If we get to Santiago de Compostela about 9:30am-ish and need to leave 2pm-ish, do you think that's enough time to look around the town, go to the cathedral, and enjoy a paella lunch? I think it can be done, but really wanted someone else's opinion to confirm. Thanks, all!
Thighs but possible.
I’d pass on any paella being served in Galicia. Look for pulpo, instead.
I agree with Scudder. Just remember that by going on your own, if you don’t make it back to the ship on time, it will not wait for you.
For planning purposes, in Santiago the train station is a mile downhill from the cathedral.
Pulpo = octopus
Thank you for the food advice. My husband won't eat octopus. I guess we'll have to find our paella at one of our Canary Island stops!
Yep, we are seasoned cruisers so we know to leave plenty of cushion. I'm just making sure there's time to enjoy the city in that span of time.
Thank you!
We did have a good paella in Santiago but that restaurant didn’t survive the Covid lockdowns. It was by the cathedral. The new seafood restaurant in its place is Restaurante Dubra. It seems to serve paella too, but I haven’t eaten there.
A few years ago we had a good meal at Restaurante El Bombero. We didn’t have paella there, but it does serve it.
Thanks Jaime! I'll check those out!
