I am trying to figure out the best way to travel to Santander from Normandy, France. The trains are long and there don't appear to be any easy flight options. Is driving possibly best?
Any suggestions?
Also - if we decide to skip Normandy but only have 3-4 days before having to be in Santander, what is the best city to see in Spain with an easy trip to Santander?

It's a long way, but train schedules that you see online for travelling south via Valladolid are not the only option. Caen to San Sebastian takes 10 hours with 2 - 3 changes (including at the border at Irun). Once you get to San Sebastian, which is a worthwhile city to visit, you switch to local Euskotrain or frequent bus to Bilbao and Santander. Your guidebook will describe these, but schedules are also easy to find locally.
