We're heading to Andalucia in March and are putting together an itinerary that runs roughly from Malaga to Tarifa to Cadiz to Seville and back to Malaga, but I've read that Sanlúcar de Barrameda was named the 2022 Spanish city of gastronomy. As a firm believer that eating is one of the best parts of travel, I'm thinking I can't pass this city by. Has anyone spent time there? Have any specific recommendations for restaurants/dishes/food tours? And if you stayed in the area, hotel/hostel/airbnb recommendations would be appreciated as well.
Interesting choice that few people visit. It has no must see sights, but is near a bird sanctuary. I went to a couple bull fights there in the late 1970s and was last there in 2011. On that trip we stayed at Hotel Duque de Nájera in Rota, but it wouldn’t be convenient for Sanlúcar. If you don’t have a car you’ll probably need to catch a bus in Jerez de la Frontera for the 30 minute drive. Unfortunately I cannot recommend any hotels or restaurants.
