Our family will be in Spain this summer, and we are thinking of making the trip from San Sebastian to Bordeaux for wine tasting for a night or two before returning to San Sebastian.

We took the train, so I'm not sure how long the car drive is from San Sebastian to Bordeaux. We followed Rick's advice and went to St. Emilion. The wine is amazing!

I'd go by car which gives you the most flexibility and allows you to drive to the many vineyards in the area. The drive takes about 2 1/2 hours and is an easy drive mostly on motorways. I would arrange your rental through AutoEurope before you go. And be careful about how much tasting you do. Alcohol limits are lower in France than here in the States. It's an easy drive (2 1/2 hrs) on major highways the whole way. Factor in around 15-20 € in tolls each way.
