San Sebastian Michelin Restaurant

We will be doing Rick's My Way Tour in Barcelona at the end of April. Before joining the tour we will be in San Sebastian. There are several Michelin Star Restaurants. In our 70's but will be traveling with minimal clothing. What is suitable attire for going to a Michelin star restaurant for a dinner? Never been to Spain and never to a Michelin Star restaurant.

In Spain we are not so stodgy, smart casual is fine, no need for a tie or anything fancy.

I was just having this discussion with my sister (62) yesterday who has booked dinner at two Michelin star restaurants in San Sebastián in May. She is planning to wear a plain black dress with a patterned silk scarf as a wrap. Her dining companion (male 64) will most likely be wearing black jeans and a long sleeve button up shirt as this is what he always wears no matter where he is - work or play, home or abroad.

Casual, informal attire, we do not care much about an etiquette in restaurants. Just do not wear shorts or flip flops (as I´ve seen in a famed Michelin restaurant in Bilbao...).

We’ll be in San Sebastián in May. Will you please share the name of these Michelin started restaurants? We would be interested in having that experience.

There are quite a few and offering very different types of meals...a Google search is surely of great help!

Arzak and Martin Berasategui are the most well known but you can't go wrong with any of them. Note that a few of them are actually located just outside of San Sebastian proper. Definitely reserve as soon as you can, these restaurants can be booked up for months.

You can have much the same experience in Barcelona too. I'm a big fan of ABaC and Jordi Cruz's culinary philosophy.

My sister is going to Arzak and also to Mugaritz which is a little outside San Sebastián.

They are also going to Ola Martin Berasategui in Bilbao and Cocinandos in Leon. She was pretty upset when I misheard it as "Nandos" and asked why she was going out of her way to go to a fast food place.

She booked theses restaurants a couple of weeks ago for late May.
