If your son has been there a while, he's probably familiar with the main visitor spots. Eating is certainly a highlight, at pintxo bars and restaurants started by chefs who have come from the multi-Michelin-starred places in the region. A side trip to Bilbao to see the Guggenheim museum (Frank Gehry architecture, changing exhibits) is easy by bus (1.25 hours each way) or train (2.5 hours).
