Sample Barcelona Itinerary

Hi guys,

So we are finalizing our plans for Barcelona and I wanted to run this tentative itinerary by you.

We arrive by train from Madrid at 11:45am on Tuesday, drop our bags at our hotel in Gracia, near Parc Guell and head back into town for 4:30 excursion in Barri Gotic. After it is done we were gonna wander the area and maybe walk La Rambla then look for dinner nearby. Any dinner places suggestions.

On Wednesday, do an early breakfast at La Boqueria and meet up a tour of Gaudi Barcelona at 11. Grab Lunch somewhere in Eixample area then head to Parc Guell for a few hours (pre-book). After that walk the area and find nice dinner place (suggestions).

On Thursday pre-book La Pedrera at around 10, then pre-book Sagrada Familia around 1pm. Spend the rest of the day wandering Barri Gotic or head to one of the museums near Montjuic.

On Friday, take a half day tour of Montserrat, then spend rest of the day near Montjuic. We really wanted to visit Spanish Village and we're wondering if it is worth a visit. Then cap a day with Magic Fountain show and dinner somewhere nice (suggestions).

On Saturday, take a full day trip to Girona.

On Sunday get our luggage to storage either at Airport or elsewhere then spend the rest of the day as a fill in on stuff missed or just wanted a second look. Our flight is really early morning so will return to airport late and head back home.

Is this too optimistic? What changes would you make. Thank you!

Don't forget to book Palau de la Musica Catalana, or to include the Basilica Santa Maria del Mar, and the wonderful Hospital Sant Pau modernist complex of buildings.

I tend to advise people with the luxury of time ...

Sagrada Familia
Hospital Sant Pau
Park Guell

Day 2.
Passeig Gracia
Casa Mila / Casa Batllo
Montjuic

Day 3.
Ramblas - Boqueria Markets

Bari Gotic - Cathedral
El Born - Santa Maria del Mar
Barceloneta

About La Pedrera/Casa Mila:

Although about 90 minutes might be a rough average time for a visit, the top floor now houses a lot of information (including some videos) about other Gaudi buildings, including some you will not be able to see because they are not in Barcelona. If you are a Gaudi/modernism junkie and want to delve into all that information, you need around 3 hours at the site or even a bit more

The Museum Nactional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) on Montjuic has an interesting modernism collection. This is in addition to the large painting collection and some striking and very well preserved medieval frescoes from rural churches.
