Cadaqués is so beautiful, and Dali’s house so interesting, that it is worth spending a night there. Can you possibly do that? I personally would prioritize the house over the museum in Figueres.

The Dalì Museum in Figures is an incredible place to visit. I encourage you to see it.

some more questions is it easy to get a taxi/ uber from the Museum in Figueres to Dali's home on the coast ??? I know they have a timed tour but really do not want to be on an 11 hour viator and would rather take the train if there are taxi or uber's to his home in Cadaques. and the cost of the taxi ??

I'm sorry I don't know about taxis or Uber, but we took a public bus from Figueres to Cadaques. I agree that if you can spend a night or two in Cadaques it certainly would be preferable. Timing everything is the difficult part for a one-day adventure. If you want to see both the museum and the house, it's possible that Viator is the best option.

Thank you. I guess going with Viator is best since our time is limited and cannot stay over night.

You're going to overdose with Dalí.... fyi, there are plenty more stuff to do/see besides Dalí :))

Anyway, the Dalinian Triangle --which is formed by the municipalities of Púbol, Portlligat and Figueres-- contains the elements that make up the Dalinian universe: its museums, landscape, light, architecture, relief, customs, legends and gastronomy, and is concentrated in a territory of scarcely 40 square kilometres. Portlligat is a hamlet of Cadaqués. These municipalities are located in an area called Costa Brava, "rough coast", which, as its name points, is full of small windy roads connecting the diverse towns scattered in the area. Going from A to B to C is not always straight forward and you have to backtrack to take a different road. That's the case with the towns of the Dalinian Triangle.

Unfortunately for you, either you rent a car or else it's not possible to see the three sites in one day. I'm not counting Viator because I refuse to take into consideration a tour that flocks you around with little time to actually enjoy anything.

So, if you were to do two out of the three -which is what most people do- you'll want to go to Figueres and then Portlligat. Uber is banned (or very restricted) in most places in Europe, including here in Catalonia thus you'll have to focus on taxis. Taxis work fine here.

You don't say where will you be departing from, but I will assume Barcelona. If so, you'll want to take an early pre-booked fast train (www.renfe.com) to Figueres (1h journey), then a walk (1 mile) -or take a taxi to the city centre- where the Dalí theatre-museum is located, then a short walk to the Dalí jewels collection exhibition.

When you're done, a taxi (Taxi in Figueres tel +34 972 500 008 or use the app http://taxisfigueras.com/ca/baixat-la-nostra-app) can take you to Portlligat, which is 40km away (under an hour), and which should cost around 60€. After visiting Dalí's house DO walk down to Cadaqués, it's well worth it. (http://bit.ly/33uZEay). To get back to Barcelona, another taxi back to Figueres-Vilafant fast train station (Taxi in Cadaqués tel. +34 626 52 68 32).

You NEED to prebook everything: the fast train, both ways, the museums and the taxis. The later you could also "take" on-the-spot (there are taxi ranks in the Figueres-Vilafant station, also in the centre and also in Cadaqués bus station) but should it be a specially busy day regarding visitors, you could end up not being able to get to your entry time at your destination.

IMHO, a sensible itinerary could be:

07:05-8:00 BCN to Figueres-Vilafant station
09:00 Dalí Theatre-Museum
10:30 Dalí Jewels
11:30 Taxi to Portlligat
12:45 Casa Dalí
14:15 walk down to Cadaques
14:45 late LUNCH + strolling around
18:15 Taxi to Figueres-Vilafant station
19:39-20:34 Figueres-Vilafant to BCN

This, of course, depends on the time of the year. Check schedules. In any case, take into account this is going to be a densely packed day no matter what,

A variant to the above excursion is to stick just to Figueres... and then visit Girona instead, which is considered the second capital of Catalonia after Barcelona. Girona in itself warrants a couple of FULL days to visit as it has plenty of places and sights to see, however, you can get a great grasp on a half-a-day visit.

If so, the itinerary would be something like:

07:05-8:00 BCN to Figueres-Vilafant station
09:00 Dalí Theatre-Museum
10:30 Dalí Jewels
11:30 Regular train (from the centre) to Girona > 1h, no need to pre-book.
LUNCH and http://www.girona.cat/turisme/eng/activitats.php
21:00 fast train to Barcelona (40')

Note this is more relaxed than the above.

I spent more time in the Dali Theatre and Museum than Enric is allowing, and I am not much of a Dali fan. Booking a first-time-slot ticket and being there shortly before it opens is a good plan. That may get you a few minutes before the tour groups descend. The upper floors are less crowded. The jewelry collection was very lightly visited pn the day I was there. I suspect the tours allow insufficient time even for the museum, so their customers miss the jewelry completely.

I was told that the jewelry collection can be visited any time on the day of your museum ticket, so if by chance you cannot get an early entry time for the museum, you can hit the jewelry first.

Yes Ann, I agree with you... but how long to spend is always such a complex matter to estimate when one's recommending... because different people have different interests. Knowing the size of these places, I "decided" a bit more than an hour for the theatre-museum and a bit less than an hour for the jewel collection would be reasonable for "an average joe" (@eeccrodgers, no pun intended, I don't know whether you're an art lover or just a curious visitor :)))

Dali is so weird that I assume anyone making a special trip to Figueres and/or Portlligat has a serious interest, but I'm just guessing, too.

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies I now now have a lot of re-thinking to do :)
