Sagrada Familia - Which Tower?

I apologize for being lazy and taking the shortcut of asking here, but can anyone recommend which tower I should include in my Sagrada Familia ticket? I should spend more time researching and googling, but I wondered if anyone here had any particular insight. I'm excited because I see that I can now order them for when we will be there in October. I must buckle down and actually lay out our itinerary -- we will arrive, jet lagged (from Toronto), on Friday, 6-Oct at 09:00 am, and then will board our cruise ship on Monday, 9-Oct around noon. I was thinking I'd book the Sagrada for the Saturday morning (all times seem to be available) -- or, I could book them for the Sunday. I'm 56 and hubby is 67, and we are both "fit".

We will be staying in the Eixample area (Best Western Permier Hotel Dante -- using "air miles"), and will buy a book of T-10s.

The other, scheduled, events we will have to work out are the tickets I will pre-book for the roof tops -- Casa Mila and Casa Batillo. I'm not sure about other sites, off the top of my head. I'm going to have to organize all my bookmarked information!

Thanks very much! Now that the dates are showing up, I'm getting really excited!

Cheers,
Vivian

My wife and I visited the Nativity. I can't speak to the Passion, but the Nativity tower has a spiral staircase on the way down that is a little tight and might cause dizziness for some coming down. We found it well worth time/cost/effort to visit. There are many intricate details you can admire up close from the Nativity. The view from the Passion of the city is apparently a little better, but the view from Nativity is of one end of town and the mountains beyond and is beautiful. You will love Barcelona, I'm sure. Happy travels.

My wife and I are going mid august, and I just booked the passion tower , according to what I read it's taller , I really couldn't decide so I chose that tower . I'm sure either one will have spectacular views and won't be disappointed.

... just for info:

As much as these days everybody calls them "the Nativity tower" and "the Passion tower", that's incorrect. These names apply to the FAÇADES: the Nativity façade in Carrer Marina, the Passion façade in Carrer Sardenya and the Glory façade in Carrer Mallorca, which portray these three moments of Christ's existence.

The basilica has now 12 towers, out of 18 which will have when completed. The smaller ones -328 ft high each- represent the 12 Apostles, then four 443 ft towers representing the four Evangelists and their Gospels, another one representing Virgin Mary and the tallest one, 566 ft high, representing Jesus Christ.

The towers that are visitable are two of the Apostles ones -both have the same high.

So one should properly say instead "the tower of the X façade" :))

Note however that, as per their relatively small height, the towers are not particularly good vantage points to see the city, in fact, the view is far from spectacular -there are other far better vantage points in the city for those adamant in seeking "views". The reason to go up the tower is, as Steve pointed, to be able to admire up and close the magnificent art details on the façades and at the top of the towers, such as this or this for example.

Finally to mention that, as has been mentioned earlier, going up the towers might not be for everyone. This basilica was conceived in the 1880s and never as a "ride", like in a modern theme-park, therefore, volumes and spaces in the towers were designed as thin "tubes" with enough room for a reduced number of people to ascend and descend (maintenance, etc) but not necessarily to cater a wide range of visitors with all sorts of "conditions". Therefore, for starters and for security reasons, under 6 y.o. and people with disabilities or mobility difficulties are NOT allowed up the towers; also, people suffering from severe claustrophobia or balance problems are advised not to go up either as the descend is always on foot via a relatively narrow and long spiral staircase. I've located an amateur video which might serve as a peek on what these staircases feel like. You can see they have rails to hold on, but it might still cause discomfort to some visitors.

Thank you, Steve, Dave, and especially to you, Enric. I am really looking forward to immersing myself in all the incredible detail that is to be seen there. I will be sure, too, to take my excellent, compact, travel binoculars -- they're indispensible when appreciating intricate details such as ceiling mosaics, paintings and façades.

I've decided that we will ascend the "tower on the Nativity façade", as those were the ones completed in Gaudi's time. Fortunately, we have no reason to believe that we will experience any negative affects from the undertaking.

Again, many thanks!

Cheers,
Vivian
