Sagrada Familia Towers AND/OR Montjuic Cable Car

Hello –
It looks like the only way to visit the Sagrada Familia towers is to purchase the “Top Views” ticket for 29€. A basic entrance is only 15€. We are trying to decide whether to skip the tower and get our views on the Montjuic cable car, which we are doing anyway. Aside from the views, are the towers worth visiting?

Thank you so much,
Victoria

Well, first time I have seen this question.

Doing the towers provides an additional perspective to Gaudi's work and, in my opinion, a view helping to understand the complexity of the work undertaken by so many in creating this masterpiece. So when I go up to the tower the view is always about the atchitecture and not the distant scenary.

We have taken the cable car and enjoyed the experience, but we found the views of Barcelona easier to be seen from on the battlements of the fort then from the cable car.

Soooooooooo........... My vote is to do both!

Our family visited the Sagrada Familia in November and are so happy that we didn't skip the towers. Some of our best pictures were from our two weeks in Spain were from the towers! Yes, it was a lot of money, but our daughter was a student and received a discount so that helped. It was just so amazing to see how the modern mind of Gaudi was 200 years ago.

Hands down Sagrada Familia! You get so much more than just a view. However, if that doesn't satisfy your viewing needs the view from Park Güell is amazing too.

We went a number of years ago when you could literally just wander around the towers all day once admitted. I would never try to save 10 Euro by not doing this. It isn't about the view of the countryside, it is about seeing the Gaudi masterpiece from the inside. It was a wonderful experience.

Decades ago I was in San Marco in Venice and it was going to be 90 LIre extra to see the Pal d'Or. I wasn't sure. I dithered and then it occurred to me that I was spending thousands on this trip and I was going to quibble about a buck? Sagrada Familia is a wonder of the world; don't spend thousands to go to Spain and then quibble at 10 Euro for this intimate view of this great church.

Thank you for this discussion. I am that person who tries to skimp on sightseeing expenses, and now I will not, at least not at Sagrada Familia.

I once spent a couple of hours in Lisbon looking for a previously-noticed shop selling postcards at 5 escudos rather than 6. Eventually it dawned on me that I was quibbling over $.01 US!

Travel is not about the money you keep in your pocket, but is about the memories you gain.
That said, I have a brother-in-law who closely mimics your confession.
I think he was oxygen deprived at birth.

Thank you all for your responses. When traveling on a budget and with a family, 14 € additional cost is quickly multiplied, so these questions, must be asked. We will most likely purchase the tower tickets.

Loved the Sagrada Familia.
I wasn't so crazy about the towers as there was scaffolding so many views were obstructed.
Might be different now.
If you go to Montjuic the Miro museum has a sculpture garden with a good view of Barcelona.

It's been said before... the point of the towers is not to look outwards but to admire Gaudí's work inside from close up. Even without scaffolding there will never be a lookout platform or anything like that. If views of the city is what you want that's not the right place to go.

Victoria,
My comment about expense came across as being insensitive so please accept my apology.
I also ask you to accept my appreciation for your prioritization of travel as being a lifetime rewarding experience for your family.
However, I still believe my brother in law was oxygen deprived at birth!
Safe travels!
