Sagrada Familia tickets today (and perhaps this week?)

Today at Sagrada Familia people were being tuned away from the ticket office because they had sold out for the day (this was a mid-day). People were being given little fliers explaining how to book tickets online for tomorrow and going forward. Fortunately I had booked online long before leaving the US so I had no problem.

I wonder if this has something to do with the holiday on Wednesday? Perhaps if Enric sees this thread he can comment on whether there is an influx of tourism during this holiday week. My point is, if you are in Barcelona this week and plan to go to Sagrada Familia, save yourself from possible disappointment (or at the very least a long wait in a long line at the ticket window) and purchase your ticket(s) online.

The TI usually has tickets available. That is where I bought mine.

I, too, got my ticket to La Sagrada Familia from the tourist office. That was in early August. They checked their computer to see what times were available, and I ended up with a ticket in the form of a computer print-out, not something on ticket stock. I'm sure they were selling from the same inventory used at the site itself. They, too, would have been sold out today.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the tourist office does not offer tickets for the towers.

Hi Debbie...
Wednesday is a bank holiday, but this doesn't necessarily explain why today the tickets were sold out. Barcelona has been for some time a very successful year round destination so there's no especial reason for having peaks of visitors. Here in Catalonia, we receive holiday-makers but also many business visitors, cruise-makers, OAPs and school trips and weekend escapades from our neighbours in Spain and from elsewhere in Europe.... Sometimes there might be a large congress in town, or several concurrent smaller events, or several cruisers arriving at the same time, or a bunch of Japanese or Chinese just because it's a festive period in their home countries, or Aussies or South Americans because it's "their summer vacation" during our winter season, etc.

Ah, the World Gaudi Congress could explain the massive crowds today. I heard all manner of languages and accents while people watching in the Costa Coffee place across the street from the basilica.
