Been trying to purchase the 40 euro ticket on the official website and I get to the identification page where you put in your name, nationality and passport number. I fill out the blank spaces and then hit the red purchase button and get a “fiscal data” error message. I’ve tried disabling Wi-Fi, going through the app, not through the app, different devices etc and thats as far as I get each time. Looks like in previous years people got to the payment part but in my case I can’t even reach that. Curious if there is a non complicated maneuver that could work. We’d like to see it in about seven weeks.
A quick Google search suggested to try using "other" as your country instead of USA. I tried it and got to the next page. Also might clearing your browser cache before trying again.
Thanks CL, I had done some online research suggestions but I didn’t see going to other a solution. Curious if that might present a problem if we have a US passport.
That's a good question rob in cal you'd have to do a deeper dive on that. It also looked like the passport info was a relatively new requirement so perhaps there are bugs to work out. Best of luck!
I just had the same issue and it’s quite frustrating. I’ve been trying over and over again, and I can attempt to put in other, but we shouldn’t need to. That sounds like a website glitch.
CL thanks again, it worked by putting in Other. Payment was by a card with two factor authentication which my debit card has so I was in.
What US passport format are you inserting?
123456789 (pre-2021) or A12345678 (modern)
Some of the most popular sites in Barcelona, like Sagrada Família, are served by Clorian, a Barcelona-based SaaS company that provides ticketing and visitor-management technology for monuments, museums, tourist attractions, cultural venues, and large visitor sites. They manage 28+ million tickets annually.
The reason they ask for the passport is to make sure that the person visiting the site is actually the same person who purchased the ticket (for security, I guess). As far as I know, there is no online verification with the country of origin itself, but there is usually a validation to check that the passport number entered follows a valid format.
Each country uses its own passport number format, although many countries -like those in Europe- issue passports following international standards, such as the ICAO MRZ standard. I’m not fully familiar with the specific U.S. case, but I do know that the U.S. changed its passport format in 2021. Passports issued before 2021, and still valid today, usually have nine digits only, while passports issued after 2021 normally have one letter followed by eight digits, similar to the format used in the European Union.
I don’t know if this could be affecting your attempts, but it’s possible that the form is expecting one specific U.S. passport format and you’re entering the other one. That would also explain why selecting “Other” allows you to enter it without problems, since that option may bypass the stricter format validation.
Glad you got tickets! And Enric has provided a good explanation for maybe why the system might be blocking people out. I would hope as long as the passport number and your name match the tickets, you would be fine. Perhaps you could report back when you return. Enjoy your visit, I was there in 2010 when the main roof wasn't quite complete and it was still incredible. Would love to see it in all its glory now.
I have the modern passport numbers fwiw. Looking forward to our visit for sure.
