Sagrada Familia - should we pay for a tour or private tour

Hello RS community! I am planning a trip in Spain for my family (kids 15, 13, and 11) and am down to the details of whether to book some tours in advance. We are in Barcelona for 3.5 days, and I have had 1/2 Barcelona "Highlights" tours recommended, which include the Sagrada familia, but don't seem to include tickets, etc. I have reads posts in this forum about doing the Nativity Tower at SF, which I'm sure would be extra for us and would take away from our tour guide time - seems to be a waste. My ultimate question is: do we NEED a guided tour of the Sagrada Familia, or should we spend our money elsewhere?

The tower, either one, is well worth the expense.
Please assign the kids to do internet research on studying SF with some form of small reward for doing so.

It is a marvel to see. We were happy going solo. It is quite large and walking slow in the church itself can take an hr. With many photo ops.. It is a wonder to see i think your children will be amazed. Save your euros.

Having just visited this amazing structure on the 15th of this month, I would suggest you skip the tour and invest in either of the towers (we chose the Passion side)...it is a memory that will last you a lifetime (forget about the amazing pictures that you will take!). There is so much information about SF to be had through the internet and the RS book that you will be your own best tour guide not to mention that you then have the opportunity to take in everything at your own pace. Our tickets for the SF itself were for 10:30am and our tower tickets were for 12:15pm. We did not leave the site until about 1:30pm...so much detail to take in. Honestly, it was my favorite "attraction" (followed by Montjuic and Tibidabo). Don't forget photo ops with your family at the little park right across the street from SF. There is a pond with SF in the background that provides a stunning backdrop. Have a wonderful time!

We did not do a tour - we just enjoyed wandering around and got our factual information from our RS guidebook and a little Internet research before we went.
