I am planning to purchase tickets for the Sagrada Familia online to avoid lines on site. However, when I look on the website it mentions that due to the improvement works that certain areas surrounding the Passion Tower is affected and that the routes are modified. Does anyone know if we are still able to climb up the Passion Tower or do I need to purchase tickets for the Nativity tower? Any information will be appreciated.
My husband and I purchased the Top Views package from the Sagrada Familia's official site back in May of this year and opted for the Passion Tower - which we just visited on 6/15/2016. What an amazing experience this day was...we spent hours just taking in all of the details of this architectural masterpiece!
We had absolutely no problems at all with the selection of the Passion Tower. The elevator is small and they limit the number of people going up to about 4 at a time (there was no wait when we went - tickets were for 12:30pm). Although you go up via elevator, the way down is via a very narrow spiral staircase. I normally don't like confined spaces, but I had no problems at all (make sure to take a picture of the stairs as you go down as it will make for an amazing memory - it was one of my favorite pictures that I took on this trip!). If you have a backpack with you, you will want to check it at the lockers next to the elevator (1 euro, which is returned to you) as there is no room due to the confined nature of the staircase. I am not sure when you are planning on going, but should there be an issue in the future with construction, they would simply reroute you to the Nativity Tower as you have already paid in advance. I hope you have an amazing visit!
Maria I hope there was a handrail for that spiral staircase! :-)
Thank you very much for the information. We go tomorrow and are looking forward to it. I opted for the Nativity tower as I had not heard from anyone. Plus the Rick Steves book said that this tower was his preferred tower. I assume that either tower will be amazing.
Thank you again.
Debbie, there was definitely a handrail for people to hold on to for dear life. I felt so bad for the woman who started off ahead of us down the stairs. She was in tears and ended up coming back up the steps (we had just started the descent). My husband thinks she might have asked to go back down via the elevator as a result of her distress.
My family visited Sagrada Familia yesterday and purchased our tickets online ahead of time. We chose the Passion Facade Tower and it was a breathtaking view. As described already in this forum, the elevator is quite small and it would be a great idea to check backpacks in lockers right at the elevator entrance. It is unbelievable how narrow and tight the spiral staircase is when you leave the tower to head back downstairs.
Had a wonderful visit! Purchasing tickets online saved lots of time.
