Safe Parking to Visit Gibraltar?

We're driving (rental car) a loop around Southern Spain. For the most part we just are getting from town to town and no need to leave stuff in car as we can drop off at hotels. But our last night will be in Ronda and from there we're heading to Gibraltar in the AM, visiting and then back up to Seville that afternoon to return the car.

So when going to Gibraltar by car with our gear in the back... what do you suggest? Park on Spain side and walk over? If so suggestions for a secure location to leave the car since our gear will be in the car?

Or suggest driving over to Gibraltar instead as a more secure option?

Thanks!

PS FYI and FWIW We're traveling pretty lite - essentially 2 carry on size bags for the 2 of us. We'll have our money, cards, ID and phones on us (money belts). Our bags will have clothes and toiletry items. But a would be thief won't know that.

There is a large parking lot across from the entry point - we parked there and walked over once. Another time we drove over - I have heard that they have started restricting traffic on the rock so you you may be better off parking and walking over to join a tour that goes up the rock. The inside is pretty cool too.

Last time I was there we drove across. Admittedly, that was a few years ago and it's probably more crowded now. When I lived in Spain in the late 70s the border between La Linea and Gibraltar was closed and one had to go to Morocco first, then catch a ferry back to Gibraltar. No matter what you decide you don't want to leave anything where potential thieves can see it.

Hi, I've inquired about a rental car for Spain/Portugal next March/April from Auto Europe and was told you cannot take the car into Gibraltar; when I asked why they said it's a high probability that it will be stolen & on a boat to Morocca asap!

Been to Gibraltar several times, the queue of traffic to enter Gibraltar has always been very long and I've always parked in underground lots on the Spanish side. Be aware though that these lots are very tight and difficult with a large car (especially SUV size). No issues with safety, the ones I've used have manned exits.

Never experienced a whiff of crime in Gibraltar (or Southern Spain) and never felt the need to wear a money belt. In fact I've never worn a money belt anywhere, nothing highlights you more as a crime target than a money belt. Would you wear one around your own city?
