RS tour Barcelona hotel

Hello,

I just received my hotel info for my upcoming Best of Spain tour. I'm sure it's very nice, but to my surprise, the Barcelona hotel, "Catalonia Portal de l'Angel," isn't even listed in the 2016 Spain guidebook. It's also pricier than I expected (175 euros/night), so I probably won't stay there for my two pre-tour nights. Has anyone been to this hotel? Any recommendations for near-ish pre-tour accommodations? I know that Barcelona is expensive, and this is mid-June, but 350 euros is a bit more than I need to spend on just me before the tour.

Thanks!

Caroline.. is this your first tour.. because you seem to think that the tours use only hotels in the guidebooks.. not by a long shot. I have only taken my rs tour.. but we only used maybe 2-3 hotels from the guidebooks.

However.. every hotel we used was more then satisfactory.. some nicer then others.. but all absolutely fine.

Why don't you just google the hotels name and "reviews".. read the reviews on tripadivsor.com and on the booking.com websites.

We stayed in a hotel in Barcelona.. the Jazz Hotel.. we thought it was well located and we loved the roof top bar and swimming pool .

hmm , never mind the Jazz hotel.. rates have gone up over your budget.

I suggest you enter your dates into booking.com.. they are a reliable website to find hotels.

ps "but this is mid june".
yes.. high season.

Hi Pat,

It's not my first tour, but it seems that on the ones I've taken, pretty much all the hotels we used were listed (I didn't count). Perhaps that was a function of the region (Scandinavia and the Baltics). I was just surprised, especially when the guidebook mentions so many. Anyway, I will try booking.com, thanks!

caroline, I think that because they need hotels big enough to have 14+ rooms available, they can't fit in most of the smaller hotels that are usually what are covered in the books for independent travelers.

The tour has used that hotel for several years, so it is reliable. As a single traveler spending my own money, I'd certainly consider some budget choices from the book on pages 131-134.
