I’m wondering if the audio guides can be started in the middle and then circle back to the beginning? I’m asking because we’re staying at a hotel right on the walk. I’d love to start there (probably in the middle of the audio) but if it makes it confusing I can walk to the starting place of the audio guide, Puerto del Sol. I’ve yet to use a guide so I’m unfamiliar with it.

As I recall (from when my version of Android WAS compatible with the RS mobile app), if you are using the RS mobile app to play the audioguide on Android ver 14 or above, then you can easily jump around to different sites along the walk. It was a good experience.
However, if you have an (earlier) version of Android that is incompatible with the RS mobile app, you can still use the audioguide - but only by downloading the MP3 version. In that case, you can still jump around, but it is much more of a challenge because one does not know where exactly within the MP3 recording to jump to. It was (for us) a bad experience and we stopped using it.
As for iPhone, I don't know. But, info on the how the app functions on different versions of Android and iPhone OS's is posted on the Rick Steves site here: https://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/audio/audio-europe
In any case, if you have a version of smartphone OS (Android or iPhone) compatible with the Rick Steves mobile app, you can easily test your question by downloading the app and an audioguide, and trying it out before you travel.

Why don’t you download it on to your iPhone and try it out? Then you’ll know for sure. I just played one on my iPad and it was super simple to start the playback anywhere you’d like.
