Royal Palace in Madrid guided tour or basic entry

We have a tour that ends in Madrid and have time to visit the Royal Palace.
I have read several reviews of tours, so the palace seems to be worth visiting.

Should we pay extra for a private tour with a guide, or should we use general admission?

I assume that general admission will not include a guide in English or even Spanish?

Private or Audioguide, but don’t do the group tours they offer. Every Patrimonio site where I’ve done a tour the guides have been the least interested robots imaginable—including at the Royal Palace.

When I was on the RS "Best of Barcelona and Madrid" tour a few years ago, the Royal Palace was included - perhaps it still is. I confess to have had little interest, but I went, anyway. I was so wrong - the palace is super. However, I firmly believe our guide was the deciding factor. That guide was Federico Barroso, he has his own tour company (Spain Fred) and I highly recommend him.

We prefer moving at our pace rather than that of a guide. For me, basic entry is sufficient.
