There are 2 routes from the Madrid Airport to Segovia; Hwy #M-607 which is 1 1/2 hour drive or the A-6 via AP-6 which is a good hour drive. We're not in a hurry so want to know which is the nicer route?

The A6-AP6-AP61 is all interstate. Believe the toll part (A-autopista/highway P-peaje/toll) of that route is about $12. The M607-M601-CL601 will be a much prettier drive. The highway part of that route ends near Colmenar el Viejo. After that it will be a smaller, 2-lane road, which is why it will take you longer.. if you decide on the route through the small towns, do a Google or TripAdvisor search on them to see if there are any sites worth visiting. If you like castles there are a number in that area (e.g., Castillo de los Mendoza and Coca) worth visiting).

Since time is no object, good choice. The interstates, just like in the states, bypass all the towns where the smaller 2-lane roads generally take you right through town.
