My husband and I will be visiting Sevilla for a week in late May/early June of 2018. We would like to do a couple of day trips to include Cordoba and Ronda. We will not be renting a car and relying on either train or bus to get there. Cordoba seems to be a pretty easy train ride away. I am not too sure about Ronda though. Any suggestions as to whether Ronda is accessible as a day trip via bus or train? Thank you in advance for any help you can send our way.
In my opinion, I don’t think Ronda makes a good day trip from Sevilla as it’s a 2.5 to 3 hour journey each way.
If you really want to visit Ronda, I’d suggest spending at least an overnight there.
You can travel from Sevilla to Ronda via Los Amarillos Bus.
You may consider visiting Jerez de la Frontera, as well as Córdoba, both of which are an easy train ride from Sevilla.
Enjoy your time in Spain!
Hi Priscilla!
Thank you so very much for your reply and the added recommendation. I will definitely look into the link that you so kindly provided. Sleeping over is a thought, but then we would be paying for two hotel stays and I would rather not. If we could find a super early departure and late return, I don't mind the time spent on the bus or train as long as it would afford us at least 4 hours there. Jerez is a great suggestion and may very well be our other day trip solution. Thank you again for the time you have taken to reply and offer great suggestions. Happy New Year to you and yours!
As I recall, bus was pretty much your only option. The ride is several hours. I like Ronda a lot and it deserves more than a whistle stop. Two nights with a full day of sightseeing felt just right for me. At any rate, if you’re spending 6-8 hours traveling to and from someplace in a day, it’s simply not worth it. A day trip here would pretty much be a look at the bridge, lunch, and back to the bus station. Either stay the night or skip it altogether.
awrzesinski,
Thank you so much for your insight. I completely see your point. I do not mind the time spent in travel if I can enjoy 4 or more hours there. I will look and see what is the earliest we can depart from Sevilla and then the latest we can return and still afford some quality time there. If it does not work out, I have Jerez and Cadiz now as back ups (in addition to Cordoba). Again, thank for your taking the time to share your perspective...I will definitely keep this in mind.
Maria, we booked a day trip from Seville to Ronda from Viator . There are couple of choices.
Nsingh,
Hi there! When I was searching day trips, a tour popped up (I am not sure through which company) for Ronda that was about 11 hours in duration (I am sure half of that at least is the transportation time) at about $154 per person. I normally do not like tours, but this would take some of the logistical issues out of the picture and allow us to perhaps maximize our time there. I will give this more thought based on your kind response. Thank you so much for taking the time to help us out!
Hi Maria, I can probably save you a lot of money. We traveled through Spain last September and took the bus from Seville to Ronda (stayed overnight both locations). The bus is inexpensive and brings you right into the edge of downtown, walking distance to the bullring (excellent museum attached - be sure to see it) and over to the beautiful gorge. Since you will probably want to spend the majority of your daytrip at the bullring, having a nice lunch in the streets near the gorge, and taking a nice walk either down to the bottom of the gorge or halfway down through the gardens & over to the gate, I don't feel that you would benefit from paying $100+ for someone to walk you through all of this.
Feel free to PM me, if you would like specific details of what we did during our two days at Ronda. We really enjoyed our time there, and it was all inexpensive except for splurging for a very nice dinner and going to a guitar concert.
Maria, we booked it for $93 each. The kids were less than that. It has good reviews. Getyourguide is another website where you can book day tours. Good Luck!
Instead of Ronda, go to Arcos. It's another beautiful hill town, 1 hour train to Jerez, 1/2 hour bus to Arcos (the bus stop is next to the train station). Consider going to Jerez for a morning horse show (taxi to/from train station), then spending the rest of the in Arcos.
I loved Ronda and definitely think it is worth the trip, but I would spend a night there. The hotel in Seville will probably hold your luggage if you are returning. We took the bus and then the train on to Granada but you could certainly take the bus back to Seville. I just wouldn't try to do it as a day trip:

Cordoba is an easy day trip by train and was the Mezquita was the most amazing thing we saw on our trip and we also saw the Alcazar in Seville and the Alhambra and the Prado in Madrid.
