We want to go from Seville to Gilbrator for a day. Is it worth taking a tour. If so any suggestions are welcome. We don’t have a car so must at least use buds service
Any special interest on Gibraltar, apart from it being a big rock with English pubs and a weird UK possession in Spanish territory? It´s not easily linked with Seville by public transport...really, no reason for it.
Only you can answer any "is it worth it?" question. Tastes and priorities vary wildly.
It's a bizarre geographic oddity with a very colorful history, exactly the sort of thing that appeals to me. I'm sure some other people would rather swallow broken glass than burn hours there, and that's a perfectly reasonable choice for them. It's breezy and cool when you're high up on the rock, and on a clear day you can almost kinda sorta see Africa from there - who doesn't want to at least get a glimpse of a new (to you) continent? There are apes you will need to fend off, a new experience for many of us. And so much (crazy) history.
I've visited Gibraltar several times, and I have enjoyed it each time, but I always had a car, and I was "in the neighborhood" so it wasn't hard to justify either the time needed or opportunity costs of not spending that time elsewhere. I never felt any need to take an organized tour.
For most folks (short on time already?) and (in your case) without the freedom a car provides, I admit it would be a tougher call. That said, the "piece of the rock" I have right here makes a great paperweight (though it made my backpack a bit heavier for the remainder of that first trip...).
I quite enjoyed Gibraltar; certainly I wouldn't characterize it as some of the above posters have.
However, I flew in from London and stayed 3 nights (2 full days and 2 half days) giving me time to thoroughly explore the caves, WWII sites, the hiking trails, and the city. Looking at some of the day trip itineraries I see online, I would not travel from Sevilla for the experience, much too rushed for my taste. I have no idea what bus service connections would be.
Only you can decide your ultimate priorities.
There are no fast direct routes by public transport between the two. It would mean at least 1 or 2 transfers between bus and train, with bus being required for part of the journey. Most routes will take you 4-5 hours each way...so you would be looking at a long day. That is just in theory, timing of your arrival and departure would need to be planned out to assure you get there and back in an efficient manner. So, on your own, I would say "skip it"
If you can find an organized tour, with transport, then the journey can be cut to under 3 hours each way on a direct bus, plus they may include some level of guided tour.
Worth is up to you. I had an interest, then upon looking at some YouTubes, reviews, guidebooks, etc, I decided to pass. We will be going right past there on the bus, so I will get to see "the Rock", that will suffice for me.
How many nights are you spending in Seville? Have you already allowed for at least a day-trip to Cordoba? Those are factors I'd consider, even aside from the long, convoluted trek required to reach Gibraltar.
It is not true, as often stated on here, that it is a "long convoluted trek" requiring "at least one or two transfers".
It is a 4 hour straight shot on the bus from Seville to La Linea de la Concepcion (the border) with Transportes de General Comos-

You then walk over the border and local buses meet you on the Gibraltar side
However it would require an overnight stay.
Since you do want to go there, please come back afterwards and share how you enjoyed it!
We were just in southern Spain two weeks ago for a wonderful vacation. My husband thought it would be great fun while we were in Estepona for several days to go over there - we could see it from there. But his main reason was to get a video of me fending off a monkey - LOL!
Per a comment above, you can easily see Africa. We had a long lunch in Tarifa where the mountainous horizon of Africa is very close!
I've been to Gibraltar several times, the most recent a couple of weeks ago as we flew out of there rather than Malaga (it's a much more pleasant experience flying from Gibraltar and with only two commercial flights leaving that morning the airport was quite peaceful).
It's an interesting place and the Rock is well worth a visit if you're interested in military history however it's not somewhere where I would make a specific trip from Seville however it all depends on your interests. I know that some people like it very much, others see it as a piece of Britain stuck in the past.
I've taken a guided tour of the Rock. Simply crossed the border and there are a number of guides waiting to offer their services. Most will have a minibus and will typically take groups although you can pay extra for a private tour.

My comment regarding the transfers had to do with trying to make the trip as a day trip. As pointed out, there are some direct buses, but at only 3 a day, the times simply get there too late and no good direct option to leave later. By other buses, Bus/train combinations, you can get there reasonably early and take transport back later, but each require 1 or more transfers, and possibly a "convoluted route", as one of the faster routes is fast train to Malaga via Cordoba, then bus. Now spending 8-10 hours on a bus for a day trip is a personal choice, not an option for me, but to each their own. An overnight, yes, would make more sense, or one that involves a route along the coast, basing in Tarifa, Estepona, or other stop.
