I am trying to do an advance purchase of tickets online for the Alcazar. The website offers greatly discounted tickets referred to as "retired". Does anyone know if that is available for retired people from the U.S. or is it only for Spain residents? Thank you in advance.
Can not address that question directly. However, we have always found that in Spain the senior discount applies to everyone. Just show your passport. But in the rest of Europe it is always for EU citizens only. I would GUESS that you could get the senior tickets.
Side note - in Austria and Germany we got senior tickets with U.S. passports (but it may have helped that my husband asked in German ?)
I would expect you to get senior discounts based on age, as you can with the Trajeta Dorada discount card for trains, for instance. Your passport is proof of age. But the "retired" category is likely to require a different, government-issued ID, which you don't have.
Thank you for the input. I am thinking that the worst case would be if we showed up with tickets of the "retired" category and we didn't qualify, then we might have to pay the difference in the ticket price. If that is all, we can live with that!! We may just take the chance, there is quite a price difference. I can find no explanation on what qualifies as "retired" so thought I would pose the question!!!!
The Alcazar discount is unrestricted. You may be asked to present ID to pick up the tickets or to enter, your driver's license is all you need. Unless the website says it is restricted to certain people (and then it will likely require an ID number to purchase), assume that in Spain retired means any person age 65 or older.
The Tarjeta Dorada for reduced price train tickets is available to anyone age 60 or more.
Thanks, Chani!! I just printed out our tickets at "retired" rate, which came to less than 1/2 of the regular rate!! Guess sometimes it does pay to be a senior!!
