I'd like to take a taxi from the airport to a hotel in Puerta del Sol - Hotel Europa. Can a taxi get all the way to the hotel? I'm looking for the easiest way to get there after a long flight. The last time I was in Madrid there was a taxi rank in Sol and it was easy to get a taxi there. Thank you.
Very very early in the morning and late at night the taxi can drive up to the hotel door. During the day (anytime after about 6:30am) it will drop you off a couple minutes walk away from the hotel because that entire area and Puerta del Sol is pedestrian only.
We always take the metro from the airport to the Sol station.
I am wondering two things:
is there a taxi rank in Puerta del Sol? When I was there 3 years ago there was. I am wondering if it is still there.
My other question is how close a taxi can get to Hotel Europa which is in Puerta del Sol.
Is there a map of the restricted area?
Thank you.
The problem is not the low emission zone, the problem is that the area is a pedestrian zone. And if you're staying in Puerta del Sol, the easiest way to get there is probably by taking the metro or commuter train to Sol.
There is NO taxis rank in the Puerta Del Sol. There are no roads. They were removed a couple years ago when the plaza was turned into a pedestrian only zone. The last couple years I was there (2023-2024) the only cars in the plaza during the day were police cars.
This has nothing to do with low emissions. A taxi will get you within a 2-3 minute walk of the hotel; essentially the time it takes to walk across the plaza.
Thank you. That is exactly what I was wondering. I will plan to take a taxi from the airport because I will be very tired after a long flight and have my luggage, although minimal, and be on my own for the first time in madrid. A 2 to 3 minute walk will be no big deal, I can handle that. I will need to get a taxi the next morning to go to the Charmartin train station. How close to Hotel Europa is a taxi rank? Their website says that there is one. Thank you for all the information.
That I don’t know since I always use the metro. The hotel will call a cab for you and if you’re lucky and it’s early enough it will come to the front door. You may want to send the hotel an email.
There is a taxi rack at the Plaza Isabell II, where is Royal Theater is, near Sol. The Opera metro stop is there also. Maybe this is helpful??
Someone also just told me about this website that shows Taxi ranks in Madrid.....in case someone else may find this useful.https://todotaxi.org/paradas-de-taxi-en-madrid/
