Hi. I will be in San Sebastian this week for 4 days. We are not foodies, dont love fine dining (prefer some atmosphere), nor do we have high interest in esoteric plating of foods, but would like to eat at a Michelin restaurant. Are there nay recommendations in San Sebastian that fit that request?
This is at the very top of the Michelin tier, with 3 Stars, but it’s the very best restaurant meal we’ve ever had - Martín Beresategui.
We went for lunch, which was less pricey than dinner. There will be esoteric plating, but it’s with the best ingredients, and expertly prepared. Señor Beresategui is Basque, from San Sebastián (Donostia) so he’s on his turf. His restaurant is about 4 miles south of San Sebastián, and we had a rental car to reach it, while we were staying in San Sebastián. If you’re not driving, transportation would need to be figured out, but I’ll say the effort would be well worth it.
You could try any of the Michelin 1-star, for something less expensive and less complicated cuisine. Kokotxa, Ibai and Ama would be three good choices, but Donostia/San Sebastian and the whole Basque Country is full of excellent restaurants without a Michelin star that would also fit your requirements.
Do you mean a restaurant with a Michelin star, or a restaurant listed in the Michelin Guide? The guide is a great resource and not all restaurants listed are expensive, or fancy. Look for the ones labeled "Bib Gourmand" for good value.
The food bar is so high in that city that you do not even need Michelin accreditation too eat very well.
