Restaturant tips for Caceres, Extremadura area, and Segovia

We are working on our upcoming (April-May) trip to Spain and I've been doing a great deal of "copying and pasting" from all the wonderful relevant trip reports and responses. I am not finding much on Extremadura, particularly Caceres, where we are basing for 2 nights, in the way of restaurants and sights. I was hoping maybe someone out there had a few tips, suggestions, advice, comments on that area. Also maybe some suggestions for Segovia, please!!! Thank you in advance!!! Oh, we already have our hotel booked for both places so that's set.

On our November 2012 trip to Segovia, we stayed at La Casa Mudejar hotel, well-located just off of Plaza Mayor, and with a fantastic breakfast. The woman working the front desk the night we checked in was from Bulgaria, but spoke pretty good English as well as fluent Spanish.

The signature dish of Segovia, roast suckling pig, is served with fanfare at Meson de Candido, right next to the Aqueducto. In the middle of our dinner, there was a trumpet blast down a hall, and several of us diners got up and crowded around an open doorway leading to a separate room with a large gathering inside. The roast pig is so tender you can cut it with the edge of a china plate, and the owner made a few proclamations, then jabbed a plate down onto the roasted suckling pig, then tossed the plate on the floor, smashing it to smithereens. The wine and dessert were fabulous, too. Reservations recommended.

Thank you, Cyn!! That sounds like a different experience!! I have also heard that the suckling lamb is quite popular in Segovia so may try that as well!!

I also highly recommend Meson de Candido for the suckling pig - traditional and exceptional. I stayed at the Hotel Infanta Isobel on Plaza Mayor and would recommend it. If you are driving to Segovia be aware that parking is VERY expensive. The hotel had valet parking available that was less expensive than the public parking garage. The route to the Plaza is difficult (read impossible) to find with a map. Unfortunately I broke my trusty GPS before arriving here so I did use public garage and then had an annoying hike up stairs and steep roads to the hotel. Segovia is a wonderful city for a visit!

Thank you, Philip! We will be staying at the Don Felipe and they have a parking garage available for 13 euros per night. They sent explicit directions so hopefully we will be able to find it!! We will be sure to go to the restaurant .....sounds great!
