Reserved a car for Barcelona, but do we really need it?

Arriving by plane in Barcelona.
Will need transportation to Girona for 4 nights.

Will need transporation down to Barcelona.
Staying in Barcelona for 7 nights. The B&B offers parking for a fee.

Would like to sightsee, including fitting in some rock climbing. Local spots and also, Montserrat.

We are a family of five.

Best way to get around??

If it was us, we would get around via train or bus. Montserrat is very easy, probably preferred, to get there via a train.

Barcelona and the surrounding areas have one of the best public transport systems in Spain. The subway, bus and train systems almost seamlessly connect, are clean, safe, inexpensive and easy to use. Renting a car is a needless hassle.

No car needed in Barcelona, in fact, it's a nuisance and expensive to park.

If anything, depending on where you want to rock climb you might need a car, other than that you don't, neither in Girona nor in Barcelona. Nor to go to Girona, in fact, the journey to Girona is a breeze on a fast train: 40' from the centre of one city to the centre of the other.

Also, cars in Europe are smaller. Even a car that's roomy enough for 5 people will have very little luggage space.
