Renting a car in Toledo

We will be in Spain in September with the My Way Tour, and then will be staying on for 8 days. We plan to travel by train from Sevilla to Cordoba and then from Cordoba to Toledo. We are considering renting a car for one day in Toledo in order to be able to make a few stops (possibly Avila, possibly El Escorial) on the way to Salamanca, and then to drop the car there. When we leave Salamanca we plan to go by train to Segovia and then by train again to the airport in Madrid, for our flight home.

Does anyone have any experiece with renting a car in Toledo, and also with making such a drive from Toledo to Salamanca?

Thanks

I'd look at getting the car in Cordoba, as you have to transit through Madrid to go to Toledo.

No idea about renting the car in Toledo, but the drive is an easy one. The route will partially be interstate type roads while some will be on the old 2-lane national highway. It’s still a good road but you could get stuck behind trucks or tractors. The route takes you right by Ávila, so you may as well stop for a little while. A good vantage point for the town is from the Cuatro Postes overlook. Other than the walls, there’s little else there, so an hour visit will probably be sufficient. It isn’t that large. With only a one day rental, I’d skip San Lorenzo de El Escorial since it’s not convenient to get to from Toledo. To me, the only thing to see there is the monastery and crypt of the Kings and Queens. If you stopped there you’d be taking a few hours away from your Salamanca time. Spend most of your time in Salamanca.
