Renting a car in Madrid

We want to rent a car in Madrid--not at the airport. We are staying at Hotel Villa Real which is on or near Plaza de las Cortes. Anyone have a good car rental agency to recommend that has an office near our hotel. We have to return the car to the airport office before we fly home. Thanks!

Most of the major companies have a location at Atocha. That would be the closest to your hotel. I've rented from Sixt and been able to get the car at the airport and return at a different Madrid location without an extra fee.

We had great advice from Gemut. Google Gamut.com and click under car rental. Andy gave me a ton of information on a car rental through 4 countries in Central Europe over three weeks. They will book directly for you with the car rental with the best deal. I ended up with AutoEurope as the vendor & picked it up at Hertz.

Having been to Madrid a number of times (and staying in the same area that you are) I'm not sure where you will find to park a rental car in that area. Do you need to rent a car while you are still in town, or are you planning on renting as you leave town for other places?

Thanks for your reply, but we won't need to park the car, as we are leaving Madrid for Grenada via Còrdoba as soon as we rent it. I emailed our hotel and was told there are rental offices near us, so that's good.
