rent car Sevilla, return car Granada

Even though I did see a similar question, it was more than 5 years ago, so I decided to ask again for current thinking.

We will be renting a car and leaving Sevilla on Nov 15 and are hoping to drive to some white hill towns, and we also have a reservation for 4 nights in Frigiliana and hope to do some hiking in the parks nearby. Then we hope to leave the rental car in Granada where we are staying a week before we return to Madrid.

Our main question is this: In Sevilla, we will be staying in the historic center near Palacio de las Dueñas. We would love recommendations on where is the most convenient location to rent the car. Does it make the most sense to go to the airport and leave from there or to a location closer to where we will be staying?

In Granada, its basically the same question: should we go to an airport office or in town? We are not staying in Granada, but about 1/2 hour away so we would just be dropping off the car.

This is a rather specific question, but tricky to figure out as we aren't familiar with layouts of Sevilla or Granada.

Sevilla’s airport is on the east side of the city, so leaving from it to head toward Olvera, Setenil de las Bodegas, Ronda, and the white towns is easy. The airport in Granada is west of the city so you could drop the car off on your way into town.

Both cities are a pain to drive in, especially if you haven’t driven in them previously. If driving in them can be avoided, that’s the route I’d take.

In Sep 2023 we picked up a rental car in Sevilla and dropped it off in Granada -- after a stay in Ronda and stops along the way.

In Sevilla we stayed in the Triana neighborhood, and picked the car up (from Budget) at the Santa Justa Train Station, which is near to where you are staying https://maps.app.goo.gl/aazv4AZb4kDoEpN26. The day before picking up the car, we used the Pidetaxi website (with mobile app) to arrange a taxi to get us to the train station.

In Granada we dropped the car off at the train station, and then caught a taxi at the taxi-stand outside the station (no wait) to get to our lodging (near Alhambra). Before dropping the car off we gassed it up at this gas station: https://maps.app.goo.gl/VVHk5gYxNi1wkLQy6
