In making train reservations on line, you save a bunch if you have the Tarjeta Dorada Card (Gold Card).
Is there any way to buy the Gold card from home? All I've seen is that you buy them at a station or Spanish travel agency.

No -- you buy the card in person showing a passport that your are eligible to purchase the card. If using the card buy your tickets when you get there. No real advantage to purchasing earlier.
