Hello. My fiancé and I will be traveling around Spain over two weeks in May 2016. I have read about some construction/improvements being made to the rail system and that this might be causing some disruptions. Has anyone taken the train between Madrid and Granada recently? If so, how was your experience? Is anyone aware of whether the construction will actually stop this train route for some period of time? Thanks for any help!
Zach & Risa,
There are railway renovations presently between Antequera & Granada but
you can still travel from Madrid to Granada but you may need to transfer to a bus at Antequera Train station.
So your trip will be an AVE-bus combination.
You will board an AVE train in Madrid (Atocha Station) that will travel to Antequera, where you will transfer to a bus that will take you to Granada.
If you're planning to travel to Córdoba or Sevilla before visiting Granada, you can take a direct bus from each of these cities to Granada & vice-versa.
You can check train schedules here:http://renfe.com
No one seems to know when these renovations will be completed but when that happens, there will be a direct
AVE train from Madrid to Granada & vice-versa.
Hope this helps:-)
