Renfe booking

HI -
Does Renfe ever overbook trains? I was able to book a ticket with a specific seat, but it looked like that was the last seat available on the train.

It is not a given that you had the last seat on the train. Where did you book? It is probable that you just had the last ticket in that particular fare bucket.

Trains are never overbooked, as there is no way to turn back passengers, like with airlines. So everyone with a ticket is always let on board.

I wouldn't worry about it. You can't prepare for every mishap and snafu that could possibly happen.

I had the really strange situation where I booked a Renfe ticket waaaaaaaay far in advance (December for a September train) to the point that the train designated for that route changed during that period of time. So, when I arrived, my seat didn't exist which was a bit of an issue. But, a Renfe employee just had us sit in empty business class seats. They weren't super strict, and they told us the ticket so it was on them anyway.
