I’m planning a trip to Spain. I need to buy train tickets from Barcelona to San Sebastián. There’s a direct train that arrives at 9pm. However, the Renfe website is showing tickets available for a morning departure from Barcelona to San Sebastián arriving at 4.30PM. This route has 1 change in Vitoria-Gasteiz with 40 mins.
If the train from Barcelona is running on time then a 40 min change seems easy but I would don’t know how reliable these trains are. I would really appreciate any feedback if you’ve done this route. Thank you

They are reliable.
There are 20 trains a day from Victoria Gasteiz to San Sebastian; the last one leaves at 21:00 or 9 pm. If you miss the connection you can just take the next one.
Otherwise just fly its direct a lot quicker
