Renal car robbery

Dear community,

Have you had your rental car robbed in Spain?

Have you been warned at the beginning of the rental by the rental company that the probability of robbery is higher due to the rental car sticker prominently dispayed on the windshoeld?

Would love to hear your experiences.

Thank,you.

Never, and I’ve rented in Spain a lot.

There are precautions you should take however, don’t leave anything in sight (coin, phone cable, maps, bags, etc), don’t park in a secluded area, don’t open the luggage area after pulling into a spot because somebody could be watching to see what’s in it, back into the spot so the lift back is close enough to a wall, tree, or object, so it cannot be opened, and ensure it is locked before walking away.

Not sure if you mean items stolen from inside the car, or if the car itself was stolen.

Many years ago, a friend and her husband rented a car in Spain. Several miles out, they had a flat tire. A vehicle with two people stopped to help them change it. While one was doing the grunt work, the other stole their personal bags from the car including passports, wallets, etc.

This happened to us in 2014. I just finished posting the incident on a reply to a subsequent rental car topic
