Recommended Taxi Apps that work with US Credit Cards

Last year, we took a trip to France, and while in Paris I attempted to use the G7 taxi app but was unsuccessful because of "3D security" restrictions that prevented the G7 app from working with non-EC credit cards. This was a bit disappointing as I had hoped to use the G7 app. So I pivoted and used the train station taxi stand, which worked fine.
Now planning a trip to Spain I was wondering what taxi apps were recommended (I have seen Cabify mentioned in this forum) and if these apps work with US credit cards...

I would say cabs are usually pretty easy to find in Spanish cities. If you're landing at a Spanish airport, you can just go to the taxi stand at the airport and you'll find a cab. Or, if you take the train to a large/medium sized city, you'll find a cab outside the train station, and there are often marked taxi stands.

The downside with a taxi is that they will often overcharge tourists on a whim. If there's a standard charge for an airport taxi, you may have to argue with them in Spanish to get the advertised price. And, sometimes you will want a taxi and you're not near a taxi stand.

Cabify has always worked for me. It's available in A Coruña, Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga, Marbella, Murcia, Santander, Sevilla, Valencia and Zaragoza. And, yeah, works with my American credit card fine.

In 2021 we used the Pidetaxi mobile app in Seville and Madrid with our non-EC credit card. Worked great. From our trip report:

Taxi. We used the PideTaxi mobile app in Seville and Madrid to arrange a taxi a day in advance; one can also use it to summon a taxi for immediate pickup. English interface worked great.

FreeNow is a very popular taxi app.

Have you considered setting up an account with Uber and Bolt? You pay through the app so no money is exchanged with the driver. You know exactly what the trip will cost prior to the ride.

Just a quick reply, I am signed up with Uber, which has worked well in the US and in New Zealand (2023). I like having the payment amount up front and paid thru cc. I am agnostic about which app I use as long as it works.

Just as an aside for others interested in the G7 app. We use it in Paris but don’t attach our credit card to the app and instead pay the driver. One still gets the benefit of ordering cabs which we have found handy many times.
