Plan on spending a few days in Vigo after our RS tour of Portugal. Any hotel recommendations? Not pricy, but clean, good service, hopefully restaurant on site. Thank you!
Umm...Do you have a specific reason for choosing Vigo? There are many attractive places in Galicia, but I found Vigo really very dull. I stayed there only to facilitate a day-trip to the Cies Islands. They were OK, but I realized too late that if what reviewers gush about is uncrowded beaches, that might not be recommendation enough for an American tourist.
Edited to correct name of island group near Vigo.
@acraven - maybe you mean a different set of islands (or maybe you don't mean Vigo?)...
Egadi Islands - are off the west coast of Sicily (Italy).
There are some islands off the east coast of Galicia, near Vigo (Monteagudo, Faro and San Martino)...but it's a long way from Vigo to the Egadi Islands (unless I'm confused, or you were working up some very tricky itinerary, both of which are possible...).
Yes, I did mean a different set of islands! I was thinking of the Cies Islands. My reaction to both sets of islands was similar: Nice enough places, uncrowded beaches, but that's not what I go to Europe for.
Hah - you've apparently been to both. Impressive. (I love small, untouristy, even obscure islands.)
Yes, there's something about islands. But sometimes, afterwards, I think about how much time I spent traveling to one of the little ones with nothing much to distinguish them, and think I wouldn't do it again. It's different if you're looking for a beach break, of course.
