Recommendations for 1 month summer rental in Barcelona

We are a family of five (2 Adults, one 13-year old, two 10-year olds), and will arrive in Barcelona on June 29th. We intend to stay for between 4 and 5 weeks, really soaking things up. My wife was raised in Central America, and I lived in Holland as a child, so we'd like our kids to have an immersive experience. But I'd like some guidance:

  1. Is it true that tourists cannot stay longer than 31 days in any one place?

  2. I've found numerous rental websites, but they seem to cater to either short-term "holiday" rentals or longer-term (3+ month) rentals. Does anyone have recommendations for ~1 month rentals? If it helps, we'll want at least 3 bedrooms, furnished, and we're not interested in hotels/hostels/B&Bs or shared kitchens/bathrooms.

  3. I'd also appreciate location recommendations. I'd love to stay in Barceloneta, but I suspect that isn't a good choices for kids that time of year, plus I don't want to be on constant pickpocket alert. Nor do I want to be too far away, since we won't have a car. I'm thinking either L'eixample or Poble Nou (my kids LOVE the beach). Other safe, kid-friendly recommendations near public transport?

Thanks everyone!!

  1. No, where did you find this nonsense?
  2. If the advertiser caters for one week holiday rentals they will surely quote for any multiple of weeks or a month, if you ask.
  3. Sorry, no recent experience or interest in Barcelona.

First, while I will not convince you to not worry about your kids, I do want to assure you the greatest "crime" is pick pocketing (which is more like a cottage industry).

Second, you will be in Barcelona during prime tourist season and the city is "enjoying" a continual annual increase in tourism.
Third, the metro system is fantastic, clean and reliable so for a month long rental you might enjoy staying outside the main tourist zones.

Fourth, our preferred area is the Diagonal del Mar area located along the beach east north east of the historic district and a 15 minute subway ride. Access to the beach is easy and there are several places where you can rent cabanas daily and have access to bathrooms and food. This is an area populated by many families and offering ample selections of restaurants (none of which are used to seeing tourist, but don't be concerned cuz we always manage to communicate with what we desire to order). There is also a three level mall with a grocery store in the basement in this area.

Fifth, be sure and research family fun events such as the amusement park located west of downtown Barcelona. Also, there are a number of great day trip options, most available via train, available to your family.

A month in Barcelona, I envy you and appreciate the memories your family will come to cherish as a result of your decision to become immersed in one area.
Enjoy!
Oops! almost forgot, with kids always important to know where local pharmacies are located to grab the meds needed to calm upset tummies.....
