We will be staying in Barcelona for 12 days in September, and would love to spend a couple days in Costa Brava. We will not have a car, and will be traveling with our 3 year old, so we would like to stay somewhere pretty easily accessible with a direct bus or train route of no more than 2 hours from Barcelona. We would love to stay in a town that is quiet, genuinely quaint, not touristy and that has a lovely beach or two. We will be doing a lot of sightseeing in Barcelona of course, so we will be looking for a quiet reprieve. And we all love to swim. Thank you in advance for your advice!
PS Hotel recommendations also welcome!
Hi Jennifer
La Costa Brava is a long stretch of the coast so there are plenty of nice picturesque towns. It's maybe best if I point you to a couple of videos so you can have an idea on what they look like. The first is very nicely shot, but unfortunately doesn't show the names of the towns. The second one does though.

I regularly cite these websites because I find them to be very good tools to 'show' what's Catalonia like, I hope you find them useful.
As per accommodation I can't really help, I live here but I don't work for the tourism industry, sorry.
One last point... the train line bordering the coast goes as far north as Blanes (check Google Maps), after that it turns inland so to go to the rest of the sea towns in la Costa Brava (appropriately named as it's 'rough'), you need to take buses. There are plenty though from Blanes, from Girona and from Barcelona too.
