I’m going on RS 2 week tour of Spain. I just checked the 14 day weather forecast for Barcelona/Madrid. It’s going to start raining the day of arrival and May rain for next few days☹️
Anyone have experience with weather in these cities? Does it typically rain all day or just showers. I’m planning on walking a lot and not sure what to do except have an umbrella and not mind getting wet.
What day do you arrive in Spain? Weather forecasts are not necessarily all that accurate many days out, and "rain" could just mean some showers for an hour or two.
I don't know whether this is the best one or not, but this is a Spanish weather website: http://www.aemet.es/en/eltiempo/prediccion/municipios
It stays mainly in the plain. :-)
Over the years we have encounter a fair amount of rain. I cannot remember a time when it rain continuously for several hours. Nor do I remember heavy, heavy downpours typical of the mid-west thunderstorms. It may happen but memory is more of a one hour shower. We do carry folding umbrellas, good hat with wide brim, and a quality rain jacket and we wear waterproof shoes at all times. If that is not adequate we would look for a nice cafe or bar.
Rain happens. Often enough in Spain. I traveled to Spain, solo, in March 2022, for 13 nights on the ground, one night on the plane. It rained 1/3 to half the time I was outside. In Toledo there was light to moderate steady rain the whole day,
on my last day in Madrid, on at least one day in Seville, one day Cordoba, and possibly more, there was light rain, moderate rain, and scattered showers. I bought a folding umbrella there. It kept flipping inside out and I kept trying to fix it. I threw it away the morning of my flights back to Detroit. Just follow other's advice about dressing for the rain.
Mike, I've got you beat- I spent 11 days in Madrid in late March this year and there was exactly one day that did not have rain.
sathackernurse - Definitely looks like rain for a few days there. Could be anything from intermittent showers to enduring drizzle. Best o pack a brolly and a smile.
This year so far has been exceptionally different to previous years for rain in Spain. Areas that don't typically receive much rain have experienced significant amounts. I'm a member of several Facebook groups relating to various areas in Spain and the comments over the last few months have primarily concerned the high levels of rain and rain that lasts for days rather than scattered showers.
I suspect that the forecast you have read is likely to be accurate.
Rain or shine, enjoy the trip. Don’t let it stop you from having fun. My guess is it won’t rain all day and probably won’t be torrential downpours. On my last trip to Spain in 2019, one day we got on-and-off light rain while on another there were fairly steady showers during the morning hours. That was in Galicia. We’ve always had good weather in Madrid, but rain happens.
We are in Sevilla now. The forecast two days ago was for heavy rain all day. The rain forecast shrank as the sunny day wore on. We ended up with heavy rain in the evening. Yesterday was similar.
I think extended forecasts can exaggerate the rain because they don’t know exactly when it will come.
I always bring my rain jacket that squashes down into itself, a small umbrella and waterproof Moab 2s for days when we will be outside and the weather doesn't cooperate ... since you are on a tour, this probably doesn't apply, but i try to build some flexibility into my plan so I can swap indoor activities (museums, churches, etc...) with outdoor (walking around cities, gardens, etc...) on those days ... but hey, sometimes you're just going to get wet and we've never let that stop us from enjoying the day ... have a great trip!
By George, I think she's got it!
