Questions about time in Ronda

Hello everyone. You were so helpful with my earlier post and now I have another question.
Do you know if it is necessary to buy in advance train tickets on Ronda-Granada route (MD train). I only see 4 trains a day, first train at 7:53 AM and the next one at 13:36.
I will be there on the 2nd week of April, and am also struggling with how many days to allocate for Ronda. I was thinking 2 nights (1.5 days), but now seeing the train in midday, maybe one night is enough?
Here is my trip schedule: fly to Madrid and train to Cordoba ( 2 nights)- train to Sevilla ( 3 nights)- bus to Ronda (2 nights)- train to Granada ( 3 nights with Alhambra booked)- train to Madrid ( 2 nights and fly home, I've been to Madrid before).
Now, if I take the bus from Sevilla to Ronda in the afternoon, spend 1 night in Ronda and take 13:36 train to Granada, instead of 2 nights in Ronda, will it be enough for Ronda? I hate to get up early to take 7:53 train out but also don't want to spend too much time there if not necessary. I could add a day to Sevilla or Granada instead.
Thank you very much, looking forward to your suggestions.

Irene,

Now, if I take the bus from Sevilla to Ronda in the afternoon, spend 1 night in Ronda and take 13:36 train to Granada, instead of 2 nights in Ronda, will it be enough for Ronda? I hate to get up early to take 7:53 train out but also don't want to spend too much time there if not necessary. I could add a day to Sevilla or Granada instead.

I've not visited Ronda (yet), but highly considered it on our most recent trip. The only reason we skipped it, was because my 88 year old mother didn't want to spend an extra 3 hours on a bus.

I had decided to spend one night there en-route from Granada to Sevilla, so I think one night will be enough to visit the mayor highlights.

I would add the extra night to Córdoba or Sevilla.

Enjoy Spain!

I was in Ronda a couple of summers ago. I spent one night there and felt as though I had plenty of time. I arrived around midday on Saturday and left in the late afternoon or early evening on Sunday. I loved Ronda, but felt satisfied with the amount of time I spent there.

Ditto the advice of one night. And, if you stay at the parador (they run some good Golden discounts for seniors, if you might be eligible) you will be nicely located to enjoy the lovely view and will also be right in the heart of Ronda. Ronda really is a lovely place...not large...but lovely. One day is perfect.

I was happy with a long summer's afternoon in Ronda. Twas hot though.

With 3 nights in Granada I would get the 17:13 (over the 13:36) train from Ronda, arriving Granada at 19:45. This is perfect timing for dinner after checkin. Those 3.5 hours are better spent with lunch in Ronda than faffing about in your Granada hotel room.

May I suggest Jerez for a night if you have a spare night from Ronda.
Day 1 - Train from Sevilla at 11:09, arriving Jerez at 12:02
Day 2 - COMES Bus 401 from Jerez at 11:45, arriving Ronda at 14:15
Day 3 - Train from Ronda at 17:13, arriving Granada at 19:45

ps. I can be a faffer

I would point out that the second week of April is Semana Santa. You can't count on what is "normal" anywhere in Andalucia. Lots of locals on holiday and traveling around Andalucia as well as many, many tourists from other parts of Spain and the rest of the continent.

There may be processions that close off streets for part of the day in every town in Andalucia. Some streets may be closed to traffic for several days. So it may take longer to get to/from train stations and entail walking with your luggage because the local bus or taxi may not get you as close as you want.

I spent two nights in Ronda in October, arriving at 12:05 (from Malaga) on a Tuesday and departing at 10:05 on a Thursday for Madrid. I think this was a good amount of time to see everything.

PS: You must temper this, however, with my disdain for 1 night stays anywhere ...

Thanks everyone. I will have to research Jerez but it means a sixth hotel stay in this trip, will get tired moving around too much. Thanks for letting me know that 1 night in Ronda is enough, will probably add a day to Sevilla.

I stayed at Ronda for two nights during my November 3+ week Andalucia trip. The center of town was overrun by tourists, with streets full of gift shops and restaurants catering to them. Once outside the center, it was tranquil and worth wandering. Took a hike down the gorge from Plaza del Campillo at the break of dawn, and was rewarded with panoramic view of the cliffs and the farmlands lit up by the rising sun.

You can see all of Ronda in less than a day. It is a small city, they make all the cars and busses park outside of town and you walk around. I pretty much saw all of it in less than 6 hours! 1 night in Ronda is plenty! 2 nights in Granada is plenty.

Your above itinerary to me is a little confusing: when you say 2 nights in Cordoba, does that mean you arrive in the evening, have one day, stay a second night and leave the next day? If so, I would add more time to Cordoba. That place is great! I loved being there and it was my daughter's favorite city from her 1 week visit. She wished she had more time there.

Most of people just take a day trip to Ronda from Seville. I did a day trip there from Torremolinos, you might take a look at doing that to save yourself some packing and unpacking. Nicer to stay in one place for 3 nights. Look into booking a day trip to Ronda from Seville. It will be plenty.

Thanks again.
@Sally- I will arrive in Córdoba in the afternoon, after the transatlantic flight and will leave for Sevilla after 2 nights. So practically it's just one day.
I am thinking of adding one more night to Sevilla ( taking away from Ronda). I already bought a train ticket from Ronda to Granada for the mid day, so will probably have enough time in Ronda.

I agree with @Jack that one-night stays are not enjoyable. Although you could do Ronda easily with one night, I always prefer a minimum of two nights wherever I travel.
