It is necessary to pay for seat reservations before boarding almost all Spanish trains. There's no deadline to buy them, but trains can fill up and the number of places available for pass holders is limited. If you already are committed to dates and times, you can secure them through Rail Europe before you leave. You could also buy several at one stop in Barcelona and get your pass activated at the same time. Most seat reservations cost $10–20 per person. First-class reservations may cost up to $35 for trips that include a meal but fewer meals are served in 1st class now than a few years ago. See more about Spain passes and reservations.

Not sure i understand, but do you already have a railpass inclusive of spain?
If not, then purchase using renfe, second class tickets and save a bundle. Try the website "the man in seat 61".

Those directions are for reservations with a Spain pass ( offered by Renfe). Will they work with a Eurail pass which the OP asked about?
