Question about air travel for PITT-BCN-London

Hi everyone. We are looking at going to Barcelona in the fall, with a few extra days with friends in southern England. I am looking at flights and can't decide which way to go. If I look at multi-city tickets the hop over to England before heading home from there adds nearly $1000 to the tickets. If I look at round trip from Pittsburgh to Barcelona, with regional round trip ticket to England ($50 or so) I can save hundreds on each ticket. But, we have to come back to Spain to fly home. I looked at all one way flights and holy crap!

Do you think buying round trip tickets to BCN and separate tickets for BNC to London round trip mid trip is worth the hassle? I don't mind paying some extra for the convenience and time savings of multi-city, but need to be reasonable.

Thanks in advance everyone.

You need to have some buffer on the way back - ideally an overnight stay in Barcelona - to make up for potential delays, but otherwise if the savings are that large, then go for it!
This said, prices could still change a lot until fall, so maybe wait a few weeks?
Also, check which airports your cheap BCN-London flights serve. Ryanair, for instance, uses Gerona which is 100 miles from Barcelona. And low cost airlines luggage fees quickly add to the $50 headline price.

Thanks. We are just looking at options right now. Probably wont commit for another month or so.

I would look at multi-city tix without the mid-trip flight.

I.e. look for a multi city flight from Pittsburgh to Barcelona, and from London to Pittsburgh.

Then, separately, buy a cheap one way ticket (check Skyscanner) from Barcelona to London.

Your saying that a flight from Pittsburgh to Barcelona and London to home is a $1000 more than a RT to Barcelona? Something is off. I have almost never found open jaw/multi city tickets to be more expensive than RT. Sometimes a little more expensive, less than a hundred, and sometimes cheaper. Remember you are pricing multi-city and not one way tickets. What are your travel dates?

Looking on American site for random 'fall' dates found PIT-BCN-LON-PIT for ~$1100 main cabin/ Prem econ ~$1950

What your specific dates may be is something you would have to plug in. The LON-PIT leg was non-stop on BA metal

I just did a quick search and found even cheaper -- Mid September Wed/Wed - two weeks --- RT to Barcelona was$350 to $450 depending on schedule. Same dates to Barcelona and home from London a week later --- $475 to $500. Basically the same price. Unless you are hit some holidays or other high travel time, open jaw should work. We prefer EasyJet over Ryan Air for about the same price.

From Baltimore, years ago, we flew British Airways to Heathrow then Iberia to Barcelona.

Hi. Thanks for the replies. I need to go back and look some more. I like the idea of the multiple city with the Barcelona-London hop in the middle.

After more digging it looks like the multi-city route with the separate hop England-Spain is the way to go, as suggested.

Thanks for the suggestions and help. We will watch the situation for a while longer and then decide.
